Community forestry and community-based forest landscape management for safeguard information systems

Community forestry offers a tried and true model for approaching national Safeguard Information Systems (SIS) under REDD+. RECOFTC agrees with the global consensus that REDD+ SIS should be based upon existing, equitable and participatory systems. The role that might be played by community forestry is detailed in RECOFTC's recent submission response to the UNFCCC SBSTA call for guidance on "types of information from systems for providing information on how the safeguards are being addressed and respected (under REDD+)."
